ROCKING-ME, CHAIR !

Have you found an old rocking-chair in your shed ? Don't throw it, roll up your sleeves and give it a second life ! (Simple Tips for Beginners)

Price : $40

Time : 15 hours

Get ready ! Things you will need :

- Screwdrivers

- Two synthetic paint brushes with straight tips

- A set of spanners

- A litre of Water paint or Oil based (with precoat) for wood

- 80/120 and 180 grit sand sheets

First step is to disassemble the furniture. A great tip to consider is to take notes and photos of each steps while removing elements ; nothing more frustrating than not knowing how to put everything back together !

remove the dust with a clothManually sand each piece and bit, and give it a first coat (note that a precoat is also recommended for Oil based paint).

1. Before

2. Sanded wood

3. First coat

It takes around 30 to 45 minutes under descent weather (i.e. sunny days with a minimum of 15°) for the paint to dry, which help for a little touch up if needed. For best result, I will suggest to wait around 12 hours before giving a second and if enough, a final coat.

I selected a mat finish paint to keep the rocking chair its old fashion's style. For outdoor or hard used furniture (such as a dining table) it may be necessary to add a coat of mat, satin or gloss varnish finish for a long life use (if you ask me, my preference is mat or satin to keep it simple and sophisticated).

Now, you can relax on your new rocking chair !

With a bit of patience, music and love, your result will be satisfying and outstanding. Trust me, you will be proud of yourself.
